The Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed authorities to organize a special screening of the film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond. The screening will take place before the court on Wednesday. The bench noticed that the teaser as well as the trailer appears to “wrongly portray” the people of Kerala. It is raising concerns over the possible misrepresentation about the state. The court said it would evaluate the movie content itself before taking any further decision related to the film’s release and related petitions.

Kerala High Court on The Kerala Story 2 controversy said that “The people of Kerala live in harmony and uphold secularism. But the film portrays them wrongly,” a Bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas observed, while hearing pleas that challenged the granting of a censor certificate to the movie. This movie is a sequel to The Kerala Story and is expected to release on February 27, 2026.

The Kerala High Court noted that public concerns cannot be overlooked. It is mainly as the filmmakers claim the movie shows a pan-India narrative while heavily using Kerala in the title. It can result in lots of communal tensions. The court stressed the requirement for caution in matters that could affect social harmony. It is further intended for the Central government to show clear instructions and its stand on the issue during the post-lunch hearing. It is looking for clarity before proceeding further with the case.

In response, those showing the film sought time to check when a screening before the court could be organised. The judge said he would watch the film in the court chamber before finalising his choice. The Kerala Story 2 teaser controversy will resume later in the day after the Centre shares instructions on arranging the screening.
